Time flies
Am I the only one who thinks this year is going too fast?
Seriously, even with the Casefile work, it feels like we just started the new season, and we are already on our mid-year break.
Yes, I know that the perception of time changes as we age. When I was 20, 1 year was 1/20th of my life. Now that I'm 36, it is 1/36th, so it feels like it's going faster.
It's a scary thought, though. I don't want the time to accelerate.
But I think it's also something else. 2023 felt different, and when I analyse why, it's because we had a lot of short trips, both abroad and here in the UK.
In 2024, we had only a few days to see the family in Poland.
That happened for a few reasons; however, it doesn't matter.
The outcome was that each day, week, and month blended into one, and sometimes, I didn't know which days of the week we were at. It's only my gym classes that kept me up to date.
I'm not complaining; we still had fun, but I recently started feeling a little fatigued. My cold/flu didn't help, but I realised that short trips, days out, and getting away helped break the routine.
I'm not talking about extended holidays, but even a night or two in the countryside helps.
So I hope that the 2nd part of the year will be less frantic.
YOUTUBE
The Boys Season 4 is behind us, and I have a few YouTube videos about it.
The first is a critical study - who would win in a superhero fight?
BOOKS
Around the World in 80 Trains by Monisha Rajesh is a selection for this month's book club. It's a journal of the author's travels via trains. I like trains, and it's an easy read.
FUN
The Boys' S4 Finale. The last episode is behind us, and the finale turned the story on its head with many surprises and twists. I still feel that the season was the weakest of all, setting up the finale and the upcoming Season 5. There were unnecessary side plots and a lack of danger. I still enjoyed the season, but there was a lot of filler.
One Punch Man S2. Finally, Netflix added S2 of this great anime to its catalogue. Like S1, it's short, funny, irreverent, and silly. I highly recommend the series. The only problem is the wait between the seasons, which is about five years.
Hate to Love: Nickelback. I started this documentary on Netflix, and even though I liked it at the start (I don't listen to Nickelback), it turned quite sappy after the halfway point, so I skipped the ending. I like music documentaries, but this one wasn't it in the end.
James Blunt: One Brit Wonder. Now, this is how you do a music documentary. James Blunt was my guilty pleasure, and his debut album, Back To Bedlam, was a soundtrack to our student days. I never understood why he got so much hate from the press as he was a perfect pop singer-songwriter artist of that time. Well, that's probably why. The documentary is funny; Blunt takes a piss out of himself but also reflects on his past as a soldier. It's excellent, and even if you are not a fan, watch it.
That's it for now. Thanks for reading, and I'll see you (hopefully!) next week!
