The underdog
Last week was a bit quiet other than seeing SiM playing Bristol on Saturday and Sunday spent healing from moshpit pain.
You can still have fun in your late 30s!
(it does mean the body hurts the next day, though…)
What’s interesting is that they were a supporting band, and I dare to say (biased, I know) that their show was better than the headliner, which we left halfway through.
It’s the second time I went to see a supporting act, not the main one.
I like rooting for the underdogs and seeing them grow, develop and get the recognition they deserve. It does not matter if it’s a YouTuber I like, an artist or a band.
We have to support creativity and new ideas; that’s what being human is all about.
PODCAST PRODUCER LATEST
A lot is happening at the moment, and I feel like we are about to take off again.
The first episode of the latest Casefile Presents show is dropping today. People can listen weekly everywhere or binge all 6 episodes on the iHeart app.
I also had a couple of calls last week about two upcoming Casefile Presents podcasts. One will be a limited series with a planned release over the summer.
The other, hopefully, will turn into a continuous podcast with regular episodes.
Both sound great, and the creators behind them are inspirational. I love working with people like that; it always motivates me to do the best job possible.
The next step?
Over the weekend, I quickly prepped a temp score for one of the shows. They liked it, so I’m starting to build the music library this week.
So stay tuned for more info.
YOUTUBE
No releases this week besides some Suicide Squad shorts that went quite well. We had a couple of shorts getting over 6k views, which was great.
There are a lot of videos in the works, and I’m nearly done with a Dune one.
LEARNING
I started a new unit. It’s an elective, meaning I had a choice of 6. I chose Sampling Technology, and it’s all about making the sampled instruments sound as real as possible.
This will be valuable learning as I mostly use VIs to score the podcasts.
I have to analyse the score - which is Gladiator and Indiana Jones - and create ‘authentic’ sounding music using virtual instruments.
BOOKS
Regretting Motherhood by Orna Donath. I finished the book, and it was a hard read but, at the same time, a book that had a big impact. I can't remember the last book that made me feel this way.
As I said last time, though, it's a difficult topic and language.
Hold Me Tight by Sue Johnson. I didn't know what to choose next, so I picked this book. It's about couples therapy and relationship advice. Can't go wrong with a topic like this.
I do have a couple of political/historical books I want to read, but they are very long, so I'm hesitating. Maybe after this one?
FUN
I’m not starting anything until Thursday when the live-action Avatar series drops on Netflix. I want to see how good (or bad) it is, and also, I’m working on a few videos about it - so it’s research at the same time! We finished The Brothers Sun, which I highly recommend, and I’m still playing Cyberpunk 2077 and have just begun the Phantom Liberty DLC. Good times.
Also started watching the new Mortal Kombat film, as I have one YouTube video in the works comparing it to the games. It is what you expect it to be.
That's it for now. Thanks for reading, and I'll see you (hopefully!) next week!
