Restless Brain
Syndrome
I get restless when I have a lot of time on my hands. I come up with thousands of ideas for new businesses, new cities to move to, and new projects to start.
Being ill with the flu gives you just about enough energy to think but not do much. And with time to think, it’s time to analyse.
So last week, I went into thinking mode - am I happy with my life, work, and achievements?
Yes, that’s where my narcissistic ego always goes first. Thanks to my parents and grandparents for treating me like a golden child.
The answer, unsurprisingly, is no; I am not satisfied.
I am too comfortable, too chilled when there is still so much to do, money to earn, and investments to make.
Am I taking the right steps? Doing the right investments? What about career choices?
There is always more.
From my therapy, I learned a couple of things. One is to stop and appreciate what you have, and I do.
But two is that instead of thinking about restlessness as it’s weird and unhealthy, accept it.
Be thankful that because of it, you are where you are, and it’s good to celebrate it.
The problem is when this goes too far, we get burnt out, injured or unhappy with what we have.
So what’s the verdict?
We can hold two opposite ideas at the same time.
One - be happy with our life and thankful for our health, family, friends and opportunities.
But also Two.
Be hungry and not 100% satisfied. Keep learning, growing, and doing your best.
Am I happy at the moment? Yes.
Do I want to spend the rest of my days in a house in the suburbs, in the UK? Hell no.
So what are the next steps?
Not too sure, but I can’t wait to find out.
PODCAST PRODUCER LATEST
The mid-year break is upon us! That’s for Casefile, meaning we will be taking a few weeks break where we pause our schedule. It’s usually from mid-July to mid-August.
At the same time, we have a few Casefile Presents shows we are working on in the background. I’m very excited about them; hopefully, we’ll finalise them soon.
Two shows are limited series, true crime podcasts, and one is an interview-style show we hope to make into a continuous podcast.
YOUTUBE
In the last week, we’ve released an entertaining video on the most reused sounds in movies and a couple of cool shorts.
LEARNING
I had a 1-2-1 call with a tutor, which went well. At the moment, I’m waiting for feedback on the first part of the assignment. Once I get it, I can move on to the 2nd half.
BOOKS
What’s Our Problem by Tim Urban. This is a book from an author of a popular blog, Wait but Why. Urban explains the political polarisation and its discourse on the population in the book. The book is American-centric and very triggering. It’s good talking about subjects like wokeness, social justice, alt-right and other fun topics. But at the same time, if you don’t live in America, this may not be as relevant, even though everything in America seems to spill over.
FUN
The Irishman. Finally, we got to watch the 3.5 hours ganger epic from Scorsese. It’s long, it’s a slow burn, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. We watched it for a couple of days, though.
Slumberland. A movie for kids about adventure in dreamland. We watched it on Sunday, and it was a decent movie. I’m sure kids would love it - the sets, music, acting, and storytelling were well done, and it entertained me.
That's it for now. Thanks for reading, and I'll see you (hopefully!) next week!
