Prioritising
I recently listened to a podcast about procrastination, and one of the hosts mentioned that his solution for ADHD is switching between tasks throughout the day to keep the interest and a sense of novelty going.
I don’t know if I have ADHD (even though it seems that everyone has it now), but I wrote and talked about it for a long time - this is how I operate, too.
Rather than subscribe to the ‘deep work’ and ‘flow state’ (when you focus on 1 task for hours), I tend to put a lot of things on my schedule and jump between.
I still have to be mindful of the deadlines and commitments, but this usually works well.
The only situation when I change it is when I have a project (usually one-off, like a limited series) that has a beginning, middle and end.
By the time it gets to the end of the pipeline, I tend to prioritise it and mainly focus on that. I put most of the other stuff on the back burner and immersed myself in the project.
There is no one-size-fits-all. All the solutions, advice, and tips we read online can be useful at different times or in different circumstances.
I think that flexibility within some constraints works best.
WHAT AM I WORKING ON
I have finished the first mix of the upcoming Casefile Presents show. It will be released in 2 weeks or so.
What's interesting is that, as Casefile is on a break, we decided to put the first episodes of our past Casefile Presents shows on the feed.
The results are unbelievable with all of these shows back on the top charts, and thousands of new listeners.
We still have several we want to shine a spotlight on again, but this will wait until the end of the year break.
Youtube. Another interesting topic, as this time we talk about the many legal troubles of the popular American show The Dukes of Hazzard.
WHAT AM I READING
Poland: A History by Adam Zamoyski. I am back on a history book and decided to read one I found last time I was in London. It's a compact version of Polish history, written by a British author of Polish ancestry. In high school, I was in a humanist class with a focus on history, so it's fascinating reading it 20 years later, in English (and translating some names on the go!). I also feel like there is less bias in this book, compared to what I was studying in the past (obviously). Still, any history book I read solidifies my view that the history of humanity is the history of war.
WHAT AM I WATCHING
Silo. We just finished S2, and I have mixed feelings about it. It's a really well-done show, but very sloooow. It didn't bother me as much in S1 as we needed to establish the world, but S2 was snail-paced. The last three episodes were amazing, but I do agree with some feedback that the first half was dragging a lot.
This meme explains it best.
That's it for now. Thanks for reading, and I'll see you (hopefully!) next week!
