Planning
A change
I love a good plan. Ask me to do something, and immediately, I will start planning the actions required, the steps we need to take, and the time it will consume.
However, I know that things rarely go as planned.
There has been a lot of change in the last couple of years, and more is coming on the horizon. Friends and family are moving away, changing jobs, changing their lives.
I spoke to my therapist about it, and she asked
“Do you feel you need to plan for a change too?”
“Well,” I said, “That’s what I do constantly.”
I always think about what I could change, what else I could do, and where else I could live.
It could be due to once an immigrant, always an immigrant. Then, after a couple of years, we get itchy feet and look over the fence where the grass is so much greener.
Spoiler alert - it never is when you finally jump over.
But that’s not what I wanted to write about.
The plans are cool; I like them. It feels like I am in control of my life.
And yet whenever I plan too much or too far, I always remember one of our fallacies in thinking.
Consider how much our lives have changed over the last five years. How much it was unexpected, how many things we could have never planned for.
It’s a lot.
When we look five years forward, we think that everything will remain the same. I will still be sitting in this room, doing what I am doing today, just slightly older and wiser (I doubt it).
We shouldn’t base the future on our past, but the chances are that in the next five years, there will be a lot of changes that we could never foresee.
Maybe we move away?
Maybe we change our jobs?
No one knows.
I’m not saying I will stop planning. Not at all.
I love a good plan and the feeling of devising one.
But I also know this is just for amusement and fun.
Because, like Mike Tyson once said
“Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the face.”
PODCAST PRODUCER LATEST
What an incredible week.
At one point, we had three shows in the Top 10 podcasts in Australia this week.
The Frankston Murders is a smashing success (well deserved), staying on the top of the charts.
Casefile is also up there, with the latest fantastic episode.
And!
We started releasing season two of the award-winning podcast Crime Interrupted. We produced that show for the Australian Federal Police, the AFP. The first episode is out, with the next ones coming every month.
It’s difficult to stop and think about the achievements because we have so much to do daily, but I wanted to congratulate the incredible team behind all these shows.
It’s fantastic to be a part of it.
YOUTUBE
In the coming weeks and months, we will slowly shift our YouTube channel towards more entertainment value mixed with technical videos. However, we still have quite a few videos in the pipeline that we are working on. This week we’ve released a short tutorial about the Rode Go microphone.
LEARNING
I had another 1-2-1 with a tutor helping me prep for the next assignment. At the same time, I am writing the essay, and the plan is to hand in draft 1 at the end of next week. So we’ll see how it goes.
In the meantime, I am going through another online course from the ThinkSpace servers, as I have access to all of them. It’s about how to have a career as a composer. It’s a good course showing you the business side of the job, but for me, it also highlights how different my career and goals are from the rest.
BOOKS
Rhythm of War by Brandon Sanderson. I am about 60% in. The book has a slower middle section focusing on a few characters while the rest are away on other quests. I do not doubt there will be a big finale when they all come together.
FUN
The Batman. Finally, we had some time to watch the latest Batman movie. Well, it came out last year. I have been writing about it in my essay and listening to the fantastic score by Michael Giacchino, so it was time to see the movie. It didn’t disappoint. I loved the music, the cinematography, the aesthetics and the latest take on the Dark Knight. If you haven’t seen it, you must. What an incredible feat to produce a film like this. I can’t wait for the next one.
That's it for now. Thanks for reading, and I'll see you (hopefully!) next week!
