Party’s on
There are two main reasons why I went into and stayed in the creative field.
One is a need to make, create, and put things out into the world.
The second reason was to meet and be around other creative people and to get inspiration from their work and stories.
I complain that my current working-from-home setup doesn’t make it easy, but I just returned from a very intense London trip that reminded me of why I am in this game.
In the few days I was there, we met with many interesting people - musicians, writers, police, authors and other creatives.
We explored the city and its history and met Casefile fans who showed up for the live show in Leicester Square (which was amazing).
To recharge, we decided to go to a punk rock festival, managing to get resale tickets on the train to the field.
Yes, the work involves a lot of time spent in a room by myself. But it also allows me to have days and trips like that, and on the balance scale, it’s worth it.
WHAT AM I READING
Napoleon the Great by Andrew Roberts. I didn’t have time to read as much, but I got to the Russia campaign, and it is fascinating to read about the catastrophic failure that was (Rule no. 1 by Lord Montgomery of Alamein - Never march on Moscow).
Roberts is a fan of Napoleon, so I will be interested to read Zamoyski’s book next to see how different the ‘hater’ point of view is.
WHAT AM I LISTENING
Chicago. The night before London, my mum and I saw the Chicago musical. The place was packed, as people love the music, but to me, the show was a bit disappointing. Don’t get me wrong; it's still fun, but it's a ‘song’ musical, so the stage was quite bare, only with the band in the centre. The choreography was quite simple, and mostly, the actors just performed the songs on a stage, not doing much else.
Slam Dunk 2025. A very last minute decision to go to the festival (which we had no idea was happening!). I had no expectations, but the size of it blew me away. We saw some great bands, met other people, went near the stage during Electric Callboy and still are feeling the pain from the mosh and jumping. Great energy.
That's it for now. Thanks for reading, and I'll see you (hopefully!) next week!
