Packing
Another busy week has gone.
Casefile is officially on a mid-year break, but Crime Interrupted Season 3 will be released in the coming weeks.
Then, we'll go into full production of another Casefile Presents podcast, which will premiere in mid-July. We are also talking about how to create better messaging around our other shows, as we learned that many Casefile listeners and fans don't know we produce other stuff as well.
So there is lots to do in the coming weeks and months.
For now, we had a nice surprise birthday for my mum over the weekend, went to see Derren Brown and are getting ready for Poland.
We fulfilled our civic duty and voted in the presidential election on Sunday (2nd round). It's one I haven't been following closely, but it is mad to see that the result was pretty much 50/50.
It is an ongoing concert in many countries that societies become so divided.
Why?
Is it really social media, echo chambers and memes?
But learning from history, such strong and emotive divisions never lead to good outcomes.
WHAT AM I READING
Napoleon the Great by Andrew Roberts. I am in the endgame now; I just need a few quiet evenings to finish the book.
WHAT AM I WATCHING
Derren Brown: Almost Human. Derren Brown, the most famous British illusionist, is on tour and we went to see him last week. The first half was a little slow, and I even mentioned to Paulina that there was no big payoff to most of the tricks. I ate my words as the 2nd half delivered everything and more. We all know it’s not real, and yet (just like other people), for the rest of the night, we hotly debated and tried to figure out how he did it. No spoilers, as we promised him at the end!
Greyhound. I finally watched Tom Hanks' 2023 movie, inspired by the Battle of the Atlantic during World War II. A great movie that doesn't waste time, as we are thrown into action immediately. Highly recommended if you haven't seen it yet. It's on Apple TV.
Napoleon. We started watching the 3.5h Director's Cut of the movie. I read many criticisms of Ridley Scott's film, and even though I am only halfway through, I agree. It looks and sounds amazing, but it's lacking in story, the portrayal of Napoleon is inaccurate, and the pacing is all over the place. And, of course, I think there is a British bias in the depiction, too.
That's it for now. Thanks for reading, and I'll see you (hopefully!) next week!
