Fam trip
We all know that family visits can be tough.
After the initial hugs, kisses and ‘how are you?’ most families inevitably move on to contentious conversations.
Politics, religion, kids, jobs.
It’s all fun.
But there is a better way (I heard it on a podcast years ago).
Instead of organising a typical get-together, going on a holiday to a fun place can solve the issue.
When the family meets away from home, ideally abroad or in a new place, the situation requires everyone to be present.
Sightseeing, eating good food, drinking good wine, and the chaos of travel.
There is no time to trauma dump or complain about the state of the economy. By the time the evening comes, everyone is just too tired to even think about it.
And the best part is, everyone comes away with good memories.
It is a trick, but it works.
I recommend it.
WORK
I was away for most of the week, but the BTK series continues, with P2 on our main feed and P3 released on the premium/Patreon platforms.
I am actually working on the series that comes after this one, and it should be completed this week.
YouTube
Just before we left, I released a short video on my 2nd channel. A slow vlog on the benefits of metal.
BOOKS
How to Quit Reddit by Jacob Desforges
I read this independent book in Rome, and it’s a recommendation for everyone who (like me) quit most social media, but who (like me) still wasted time on Reddit, thinking it’s not like the other platforms.
The book is split into two. The first (imho most interesting one) goes deep into how Reddit actually works and why it’s not as unbiased, crowdsourced well of knowledge as many think. This part should convince anyone who thinks spending time on the website is actually worthwhile.
The second half is about how to actually quit it, with some tips and practical advice that can be applied to any other social media platform.
LIVE
Poppy
We finished Paulina’s birthday celebrations with Poppy’s gig in Bristol. She is an example of why we should be trying to discover new music, even later in life. Apparently, most people stop after around 30.
Her music is heavy, pop, weird and energetic, and it was definitely the most fun we had at a gig in recent months.
MOVIES/TV
Sugar
This neo-noir, a bit Lynchian, Apple TV series is an interesting watch. For some, it would be quite pretentious, but I enjoy it, and I think Colin Farrell is great in it.
But…the show takes a very unexpected turn in EP6. So if you want to give it a go, don’t google the series, not to spoil it. It is definitely a creative choice that not everyone liked.
I have one more episode to go, and S2 should be coming this year, so I am curious how it develops after the big reveal.
That’s it for now. Thanks for reading, and I’ll see you (hopefully!) next week!
