Audience for everything
It was a busy and fun week.
Last Saturday, we saw a gothic metal band - Lacuna Coil.
On Monday, we saw Black Pumas - a psychedelic, blues/soul band whose song Colors now has almost 260 million views on YouTube.
On Tuesday we took my mum to see Starship Troopers, a classic 90s sci-fi, as a part of Halloween Film Fest (they showed it in a Planetarium!)
On Friday we saw Punk Rock Factory, a fun band who do punk covers of popular Disney songs (and other classics).
On Sunday we saw an Australian YouTuber/comedian performing in the city.
And this week we are at the Mary Poppins musical.
Why am I writing this?
To show off what a great week I had?
Yes. (except I caught a cold from the excitement).
But also, each event was pretty much sold out. From metal, to punk rock with a old film on a random Tuesday night.
What does it mean?
It means there is an audience for absolutely everything. People want to get out, get together and experience something. It could be art, entertainment, a laugh.
It shows that there is a room for anyone who wants to share their stories and creativity with others.
And if done well, people will come.
I absolutely love it.
(although I am happy to just stay at home next week and enjoy my new coffee machine)
WHAT AM I WORKING ON
What is happening?
Too much.
Casefile 2024 is coming to an end and we are busy working on the last couple of episodes.
New Casefile Presents podcast will be out in a week’s time - is it ready yet?
Hell no!
(I live for the last minute deadlines.)
On top of it all I have been preparing Casefile RSS feed for an incoming change. Listening to these oldies took me down a memory lane. I have had a few thoughts about that which I shared with a team and maybe will share them here too, next week.
New Pro Tools version is out - it’s good and it seems stable. Albeit I have found a bug which I duly submitted to the dev team. They said they are investigating.
See, I help the world get better too!
Neutron 5, my main mixing plugin, just came out (up from version 4). I have purchased it on the first day and so far it looks quite sleek. There are some small addition which I shall test in the coming days. I like that they improved the AI assistant which helps me when preparing music for our shows (I don’t have time to mix each stem individually so I rely on it).
And update on my fader controller after the last week’s clean - they are working fab!
WHAT AM I READING
Selfish, Shallow, and Self-Absorbed by Meghan Daum. I am nearly finished with the book and it’s a good but a poignant read. Each writer gives reasons and explanations for not having children (and reminder - all by choice). Some essays are funny, some sad, some reflective but I’d definitely recommend it, especially for people on the fence.
Did it change my mind?
I mean, I’m not against kids. I just haven’t got time. I’ll leave that job for other people.
WHAT AM I WATCHING
Loki S2. I enjoyed the first season so now we are back on Disney, it was time to catch up. I mean, it’s alright and well made. But watching the season reminded me what went wrong with Marvel and the whole industry. It just feels tired, stale and boring at times. Things are happening on screen but I just don’t care. Unless they get better writers and stories I don’t think they will be able to get the spark back.
The finale was good though.
That's it for now. Thanks for reading, and I'll see you (hopefully!) next week!
