Another week
It’s a weird time, November up to Christmas.
When it can sometimes feel like everything has slowed down, as, at least in the West, the weather and shorter days prompt us to stay home with a nice cup of tea.
It’s nice, but the days also let you catch up on stuff.
WORK
Casefile/Podcasting
As promised, I finished writing the 2026 music libraries for Casefile, and this week I am exporting them into actual stems.
With the Omisphere 3 upgrade (my main CF synth) came a new option which I was keen to try out, as it could have changed my workflow in a big way. And it did.
The option is called Mutate (a fun fact, it was a happy accident when they were working on the upgrade; it wasn’t planned).
And essentially it takes the chosen patch and ‘mutates’ it into a brand new one, based on the primary sounds.
In the past, I would write a musical cue, split into six textures and copy four times. Then choose a new texture for each copy, 6x4 times. Twice for each episode (as each new library has two cues per episode). So calculate at least 32 x 2 x 6 x 4. It’s a lot.
Now, when I learned about the Mutate option, I wondered if, instead of searching for new sounds each time, I could select the main six textures (for each episode) and then mutate each one 4 times, thus creating a new cue, but based on the primary sounds.
With the plan of achieving more consistent sound in the episode and creating just 1 EQ profile each time I move onto mixing.
Long story short - it worked!
I only started the work, but I am excited that my plan was successful, as this is the biggest change to my workflow in a very long time.
Dog’s Lounge
Paulina is busy recording videos as I organise the first edits. On top of that, I was designing a prompt that could take our original video scripts and turn them into website articles, social media posts, and newsletter blurbs. It took a few days, but I think I got one.
YouTube
We released another video, where we dissect the Hollywood trope of using British Accents for Ancient civilisations in movies.
BOOKS
Turning Points by Steve Richards
I read this political book last week, which covers the major historical events of the last century that changed the face of Britain. Atlee’s government, the Suez crisis, Brexit, and the Pandemic.
It’s all there, and it was an interesting read, even though it (in my view) suffered from recency bias.
LIVE
Jim Jefferies
Went to the stand-up last week (a first in a long time) and Jim was in (imho) his best form. Definitely reminding me of his first stand-up specials that I enjoyed. The evening went over time as Jim ruthlessly dealt with hecklers and some drunken lads who nearly started a fight.
He is still touring in the UK and is very much worth seeing.
MOVIES/TV
High Potential
It’s not a series I would watch by myself, but Paulina likes it, and I don’t mind it. It’s perfect comfort, autumn/winter TV. Even though a bit too ‘American’ for my taste. And my God, the music choices are painful. But other than that, it’s fun. We are on S2 atm.
That’s it for now. Thanks for reading, and I’ll see you (hopefully!) next week!
